Native Shade Tree Farm, LLC, owned and operated by Joan and Leon Campbell, is located on the Wright-Tucker Farm that has been owned by Joan's family since 1898. We are currently in our seventh generation on the farm. The farm has been registered in the Texas Family Land Heritage Program sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, certifying that it has been maintained in continuous agricultural operation for more than 100 years by the same family.

Three generations are currently involved in the operations of the farm, Joan & Leon, son Bryan and his wife Britney, their daughters Mackenzie and Kailey, and son Kevin and his wife Chris and their kids Lindsay and Quinn. With Joan's father, O. B. Jordan, and Leon's mother, Elouise Campbell, four family generations reside on the farm.

In 1897, Esaw and Sarah Wright moved their family from Mary's Creek near Aledo, TX to land he purchased in the Silver Creek community just a few miles away. Sarah died in December of 1898. After living on the land for only six years, in 1903 Esaw took his second wife, Rachel, and four of this thirteen children to his former home of Somerset, KY. At that time, he sold the property to his older sons, Fount and Perry who later split the property into their own separate farms, each selling their half to the other.

Perry operated his farm as long as he was physically able, raising livestock, poultry, cotton, grain, fruit, vegetables, and pecans. Then, his son-in-law Mose Tucker took over until his death in December 1946. After that, Perry's daughter, Bertha Tucker with her son Kenneth Tucker continued to operate the farm throughout their lives. From 1986 until 1998, Mose and Bertha's daughter, Geraldine and her husband O. B. Jordan, assisted by their daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Leon Campbell, continued to raise cattle and hay. Since 1998, Joan and Leon have raised donkeys...and now raise trees!

Perry and his wife, Lillie Yeary, brought up two children, Bertha and William, in the home they built on Silver Creek. Lillie passed away in 1939, and Perry married Jessie O'Kelly in 1946.

Kenneth Tucker, great-grandson of Esaw Wright, though physically disabled, was in his lifetime (1921-1986) certainly the most dedicated and devoted steward of this legacy. He loved working this farm, and his affection and dedication to the land, his livestock, and the community are widely known.

Today, Joan and Leon are assisted in operation of the tree farm by sons Bryan and Kevin. We are pleased to continue the legacy of the Wright-Tucker Farm through use of the land as the home of Native Shade Tree Farm, LLC.
